The third step: Read what you love until you love to read.

(If you missed the other two: First step and the second one.

I know—it sounds cliché. But it’s true: financially free people read.

When I first heard this, I hesitated. Back then, reading felt like a chore. Now? Add a cup of coffee and it’s one of my favorite parts of the day.

If you’re anything like me, you probably spent years not reading at all. That’s okay. You don’t have to start with heavy personal finance books or philosophical essays. Use audiobooks, AI summaries, or start with “candy books”—those easy, overhyped reads that might not change your life but get you started.

Because here’s the secret: at first, what you read doesn’t matter. That you read does.

You’ll soon start noticing that many “feel-good guru” books don’t add real value. That’s when you’ll begin to spot the real gems—the books that sharpen your thinking and actually help you grow.

My Simple Filters for Choosing Good Books:

  1. Check the author’s background. Have they lived what they preach?

  2. Avoid theory-only authors. If they’ve never done what they advise, skip it.

  3. Watch the topic. Is it timeless or just a trendy cash grab (Crypto, NFT, AI hype)?

  4. Build your own criteria. What resonates with you matters most.

So, start small. Read what you love—until you love to read.

Then, keep reading what makes you better.
